Michelle Obama Leaves the White House in Classic Style

Although outgoing First Lady Michelle Obama has proven to be an arbiter of style over the course of her eight years in office, it couldn’t have been easy to decide what to wear during her final hours in the White House today. But as she and her husband, President Barack Obama, emerged in Washington, D.C., to greet the incoming First Family hours before the inauguration this morning, it was clear she had found the perfect look. Subdued and relaxed, Obama descended the stairs in a classic burgundy A-line tea-length Jason Wu dress that felt reminiscent of First Lady fashions of yesteryear. Forgoing any accessories and pulling her newly cut bob back into a slick bun, she was no doubt going for a more subtle approach to say goodbye.
Obama quietly accessorized with a minimalist waist-cinching belt and a pair of classic pumps, which were appropriate for the occasion. Sharing a small kiss with her husband, the 44th First Lady turned over her position with grace and poise. It was a bittersweet moment, but as always, she rose to the occasion in true fashion.
