Would You Sit on a $100,000 Louis Vuitton Toilet?

Would you sit on a toilet made of Louis Vuitton bags? If the thought has ever crossed your mind, then artist Illma Gore is about to make all your dreams come true. (To give you some idea of Gore’s oeuvre, she is the person responsible for this nude portrait of President Donald Trump.) She worked for three months and used 24 different bags valued at $15,000 total, including a $3,000 suitcase, to make the fully functioning potty. Each piece was sourced from designer resale site Tradesy and the toilet itself is currently on display at the Tradesy showroom in Santa Monica, California. And if you’re feeling like your current bathroom situation isn’t quite cutting it, then the wonderful accessory can now can be yours for $100,000. (In case you were wondering, the ultra luxurious toilet has never actually been used, though according to Gore, “many have offered.”)
While the idea of a cheeky Louis Vuitton toilet may seem novel, there are actually many fashion objets d’art currently making the rounds. Back in September of 2016, Supreme released a $30 brick that was soon after listed at $1,000 on eBay. And just yesterday, Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director Kim Jones Instagrammed an image of a big Louis Vuitton x Supreme teddy bear on sale to benefit BBC Children in Need.
The high-low obsession with designer monograms and logos has been popular with DIY artists, as well. Ava Nirui of cult Instagram account @avanope has been creating logo-inspired doodads for years—think, toothbrushes covered in Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami monogram print and Chanel double-C-emblazoned basketballs. Imran Moosvi of the Instagram account @imran_potato follows the same design shtick and churns out covetable yet unusual collectibles including a PlayStation controller boasting LV symbols on the touch pad and a MacBook covered with the Gucci monogram. Turns out Moosvi’s mind is also in the toilet, so to speak: He created a roll of Gucci monogrammed toilet paper, just the thing to go with your new Louis Vuitton flusher.
