For Dolce & Gabbana's fall-winter collection, they're looking to the next chapter. Partnering with Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), the fashion house's show served as a reminder that the future is near, casting their audience-less show with models and robots alike. Employing the iCub and R1 multifunctional humanoids, the result of IIT's highly specialized research in the field of service robotics and Artificial Intelligence, the robots served as a centered art piece, controlled behind-the-scenes, while looks traipsed down the runway.

With the world going digital, it only makes sense that the brand would lean into the artificial. It's the e-girl to the nth degree, and there is no stone of cheeky futurism left unturned. Spotlighting a technicolor rave is an assault to the senses, so this is not for the light-hearted. Technicolor graffiti is mashed against shimmering high-tech material. Holographic layers, neon animal print, and armored clothing mimicking robotic limbs are all on stage. In true 2021 fashion, Dolce's signature tiaras exist alongside face shields. But as they say, you can't look forward without acknowledging the past, so the designers tapped into their archives with corseted looks and power shoulder suiting. Literally referencing their pre-millennial heyday, graphic tees were emblazoned with "I'm a supermodel" and "90's Fashion."

"It is incredible to think how man's cleverness and determination can give life to new forms of intelligence, which can learn from their own experience and be deployed in the medical, environmental and social fields," Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana stated in a press release regarding the ITT. "Fashion has always been the result of the confluence of worlds that can be very far from each other: if technology is truly serving the man, his needs and his passions, then a craftsman and a robot will be able to coexist."
