And it wasn’t just a typical waiting-around-for-fittings affair, either. Instead, call it the ultimate playground of all casting calls, starting from the outside, where Phil Oh lensed the grand entrances of the insouciant-cool models-off-duty en masse, while photographer Sofia Malamute created editorial-worthy portraits of several of the stunners on the sidewalks.
Inside, models were greeted by Instagram’s cheeky darling Elliot Tebele of Fuck Jerry, who enlisted fresh faces to re-create his favorite memes. As for those paper “comp cards”—or rather, the model form of ID? The photographs received an elevated, digital touch and were transformed into GIFs to bring their personalities to life.
Behind the scenes, Kevin Tachman brought snapshots of some models munching on lunch or playing on their iPhones to life, while others created charming emoji art portraits with artist Jeanette Hayes. But one of the best parts of all? A massage station that kneaded away all the stress of an impending Fashion Week.
So how did we track all of the faces filtering in to partake in the playful casting commotion? Each model did what came naturally: They took a selfie, of course. And what better way to kick off Fashion Week? Here, get to know these faces—you’ll be seeing a lot more of them soon.
Special thanks to Skylight 60 Tenth.
