Inside Tiffany & Co.’s New Café, Where You Can Yes, Eat Breakfast at Tiffany’s


In the opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Holly Golightly, dressed in a black evening gown, pearls, and sunglasses, eats a croissant and sips a coffee in front of the store’s Fifth Avenue windows. But if she had only waited 56 years, she could’ve gone inside and ordered a cappuccino.

Yes, Tiffany’s now has a restaurant on its fourth floor, the Blue Box Café. The opening made a splash on social media, where it quickly trended as a Twitter Moment. Duh—it meant you could literally eat breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Actually, you can eat a lot of things at Tiffany’s. The Charles Lewis Tiffany Club Sandwich, named after the Tiffany’s founder, a Fifth Avenue Salad, a Blue Box Café cake, and a bunch of other “American classics reinvented to be uniquely Tiffany,” Richard Moore, VP, creative director of store design and creative visual merchandising told Vogue. And yes, he says, you can totally order a croissant too.
The new café also got attention for its striking blue decor. To be more specific, it’s Tiffany Blue, a color so synonymous with the jeweler that it’s trademarked. There are Tiffany Blue leather banquettes, Tiffany Blue chairs, Tiffany Blue plates (from their Color Block collection) Tiffany Blue trim, and walls with amazonite, “the nature version of Tiffany Blue.” It’s a lot of blue, and that’s the point. It’s “immersion in Tiffany—not only the feeling of being inside a Blue Box—but surrounded by Tiffany hospitality,” Moore says.
The café is open regular store hours, which means customers can stop by after browsing for engagement rings (’tis the season) or just to live out their Audrey Hepburn fantasies. But, with reports of lines out the door, it seems there’s already much ado about Tiffany Blue.
