Sarah Jessica Parker, Sofia Vergara and Nicole Kidman bring sparkle and bold shoulders to Golden Globe Awards
They walked the ubiquitous red carpet sheltered by a plastic tent, under brooding grey skies which threatened heavy rain.
But the stars of Hollywood made no concession to the stormy weather, as they strutted their stuff in a dazzling array of gowns at the 74th Golden Globes on Sunday.
Bringing a flash of silver were Drew Barrymore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sofia Vergara and Nicole Kidman, in what was unmistakably the colour of the night.

The four all rocked another strong trend - bold shoulders - in their striking gowns.
But there were also plenty of other shades on display, with a veritable rainbow of colours, from pregnant Natalie Portman in mustard yellow, to Lily Collins in dusty pink.
The ceremony taking place at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles honours the best in film and American television of 2016 as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
Sharing the honours as Miss Golden Globes at this year's ceremony are sisters Sophia, 19, Sistine, 17, and 13-year-old Scarlet - the daughters of actor Sylvester - who led arrivals for the 74th Golden Globe Awards.

The youthful trio kept their look classic in co-ordinating but distinct black gowns, accessorised with some rather grown-up diamonds.
Lily Collins told DailyMail.com she felt like a Hollywood princess in a dusty pink ballgown created especially for her by Zahair Murad couture and gems by Harry Winston.
'It's a special night for me I feel like a Hollywood princess,' she said.

The 27-year-old was in the running for a Golden Globe for her role in the film Rules Don't Apply.
Also rocking pink were actresses Angela Bassett and Felicity Jones, country singer Carrie Underwood and TV presenter Karrueche Tran.
Bringing a flash of pure sunshine in a yellow gown was Emily Ratajkowski, who showed her experience in the modelling world as she posed in a myriad of ways.

All eyes were fixed on Jennifer Biel as she sashayed the Golden Globe red carpet in an Elie Saab gown with a dramatically plunging neckline.

Hollywood A-listers Drew Barrymore, Sylvester Stallone, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will add glitz to the annual party as awards presenters.
The Golden Globes nominees are split by genre within the TV and film categories and the event is seen as a predictor of how the Academy Awards might go in February.
Musical La La Land, indie grief drama Manchester By The Sea, and black coming-of-age film Moonlight are leading the awards buzz in a season that has been dominated by escapist fantasy and gritty drama in equal measure.

La La Land looks set to sweep the board as it picked up a staggering seven Golden Globe nominations.
The musical - led by Emma and Ryan - picked up nods in almost all major film categories outside the Drama nominees.
The film picked up acting nominations for its leads Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in the Musical Or Comedy categories, as well as Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Song.

La La Land harks back to Tinseltown's golden era of big musicals, with Stone and Gosling playing an odd couple who find themselves house-sitting after a string of personal disasters.
The film directed by Damien Chazelle swept the board at the Critics' Choice Awards on December 11.
Up against La La Land for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are 20th Century Women, Deadpool, Sing Street and Florence Foster Jenkins.
Other big nominees include Moonlight (six nominations), Manchester by the Sea (five nominations) and TV movie The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (five nominations).

AMC crime drama The Night Manager will be close behind, with four nominations, while Black-ish, The Crown, The Night Of, This is Us and Westworld have three each.
Up against this year's golden couple Stone and Gosling are an established crowd.
Against Stone in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are Annette Bening (20th Century Women), Lily Collins (Rules Don’t Apply), Hailee Steinfeld (The Edge of Seventeen) and the evergreen Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins).

Gosling will face Colin Farrell (The Lobster), Hugh Grant (Florence Foster Jenkins), Jonah Hill (War Dogs) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool).
In the Best Motion Picture - Drama the battle is between Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Lion, Manchester By The Sea and Moonlight.
In the acting categories for Drama - Best Actor is between Casey Affleck, Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington.

Best Actress will be between Amy Adams (Arrival), Jessica Chastain (MissSloane), (Loving), Natalie Portman (Jackie) and Isabelle Huppert (Elle).
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture is a contest between Viola Davis (Fences), Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Nicole Kidman (Lion), Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea).
In the Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, the hopefuls include Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water), Simon Helberg (Florence Foster Jenkins), Dev Patel (Lion), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nocturnal Animals) and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).
The list of nominees were revealed by Don Cheadle, Laura Dern and Anna Kendrick on December 12.
