When it comes to clothes, nothing says “summer” quite like crochet. Capable of transporting us to a deserted beach, cocktail in hand, thanks to its louche, laid-back appeal, it’s no wonder we’re all craving some colourful crochet pieces in our lives right now.
Crochet is also all the more enticing this season as it comes catwalk-approved. The technique was all over the fashion capitals during the spring/summer 2021 shows. At Bottega Veneta, Daniel Lee went all-in, spinning mini dresses to clutch bags and natty Kelly green jackets to floor-sweeping summer gowns in complex yarns.Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino invested in the home-spun charm of crochet too, allowing crafty florals to fall into retro short sets and boxy cardigans, while over in New York, Paloma Elsesser opened the Eckhaus Latta show wearing a relaxed, take that pieced together different crochets to form a brilliantly breezy summer skirt.
